Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other marked vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior representative commented the incident made him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
