RAF Typhoon jets have conducted a mission with French aircraft in a coordinated attack on an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory used by the IS group, as stated by the UK's MoD.
The facility, located using intelligence, was believed to be housing weapons and explosive materials, the statement said, and was located in mountainous terrain just above the ancient city of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"The RAF jets used Paveway IV guided bombs to target a number of entry passages leading to the facility... early reports are that the target was engaged successfully," the MoD said.
There was no indication of any civilian impact in the attack on Saturday evening and each participating jet made a safe return, the MoD added.
The British jets were backed up by a Voyager tanker plane.
Daesh - alternatively referred to as Daesh - enforced jihadist rule over large swathes of both Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This strike shows the UK's leading role, and resolve to work closely with our allies, to eliminate any resurgence of IS and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the area," the British Defence Secretary the minister stated.
RAF aircraft have carried out overwatch operations over Syria to "deter any efforts to regroup" of IS after its routing at the Baghuz confrontation in the year 2019, the authorities noted.
"I extend gratitude to the personnel of British forces participating in this operation for their expertise and their valour," Healey commented. "Including them were a great many UK service members on duty over the holidays. This operation, to take out militants who endanger our safety, highlights how our armed forces are prepared to act, continuously, ensuring Britain's security within its borders and powerful internationally."
Last December, the US military executed what it described as a "large-scale strike" against IS targets in Syria, after an assault killed two American soldiers and a civilian linguist in Palmyra.
The United Nations estimates Islamic State still has roughly 5-7 thousand fighters in both countries.
